1Overview

 

School of Computer Science and Information Engineering, which includes Computer Department and Communication Engineering Department, offers courses leading to the Bachelor of Engineering Degrees in 4 majors: Computer Science & Technology, Communication Technology, Electronic Commerce and Electronic Information Engineering.

   

With 44 professional teachers including 3 professors (PhD), 14 associate professors (Three PhDs), nearly 60 faculty and affiliated faculty members are engaged in fruitful teaching and management. The high-level and knowledgeable professional teachers, some of who graduated from well-known university, offer experienced teaching and research service. In SCSIE, there are more than 1700 Fulltime Students involving their undergraduate study. The experimental environment and laboratories are also advantageousand well served. We possess advanced experimental equipment valued over 10 million Yuan such as fundamental electronic laboratory, wireless technique laboratory, electrical laboratory, ED laboratory, electronic measurement laboratory, SPC exchange optical transmission laboratory, household appliances laboratory, communicational technique laboratory, network technique laboratory, network cabling laboratory, embedded technology laboratory, computer assembly and maintenance laboratory, as well as nearly 400 sets of PC.

In SCSIE,the students can be trained to be practical high-tech talents  who  work in the area of Information Technology, Communication Industry,Electronic Information Industry.The quintessential informational background of maritime feature makesthe graduates widely accepted by employers in different field, even further welcomed by information sector of maritime management.        

 

      Besides curriculum provided for students’ major, it is eligible for our teachers to take public computer fundamental course for total students of GMU. Also owning a high and new technical examination station, we offer professional technical training and credential exam combined with relevant courses. Throughout 5 teaching teams which are Electronic Commerce Team, Digital Media Team, Internet of Things Team, Information Technology Team, Communication Technology Team as well as a Experimental Center, the mission of SCSIE is to provide graduates with the durable knowledge and practical skills to become future engineer in the evolving discipline under the guidance of Major Course Committee composed of SCSIE teachers, enterprise engineers and GMU experts.




2Dean’s Welcome



Almost every person has the common sense that the world in current era is full of information. What plenty of messages we get comes from computer technology and communication technology. Every morning for you opening eyes, the smartphone will offer favorite messages on your first sight. When starting to work in your office, you definitely turn on your computer which is convenient for you. When returning from work, you could buy what you daily need from network. At night before you are going into your dream, you could browse the news from smartphone to know what happened this day. One thing we should know: All what we mentioned is hardly realized without information technology.  

    We can image that how the daily life will be dull, boring, lonely and empty without services from information technology. If you want to know how the information technology to be realized, you must learn computer technology, network technology, software technology, electronic technology, communication technology, electronic commerce and so on. It is positively right for young boys and girls who keep up with new times and like exploration, to select SCSIE as their ideal study school.

      SCSIE open arms to welcome young students from all parts of the world.


3Faculty and Staffs



            Professor Yuan Fengshan, received the Master Degree of Engineering majored in Metal Corrosion from Institute of Metal Corrosion Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and PhD degree majored in Applied Mathematics from Sun Yat-sen University of China, in 1987 and 2005 respectively. As a computer scientific professor, he is also the dean of School of Computer Science and Information Engineering. He is pursuing ground-breaking work in a wide range of areas including network, information security, software and digital image processing.

     He has participated in several research projects at national and provincial level as a principal member. He has published nearly 30 academic papers and professional textbooks.



    Professor Huang Haibin, born in October, 1965 in Donglan, Guangxi, is a professor of Computer Science and Technology. He obtained his BSc and MSc degree from Guangxi Normal University in 1985 and 1999, respectively, and PhD degree from Central South University in 2008. He joined Yulin Normal University and Guangzhou Maritime University in 1999 and 2014, respectively, and became a professor since 2009. His current research interests include Complex networks, Pattern recognition and Bioinformatics. He has obtained a number of research grants, including 2 provincial natural science foundation projects, and published more than 30 research papers.




    Professor Shu-Bo Zhang, received the MSc and PhD degree in applied mathematics from Sun Yat-sen University, China, in 2005 and 2009, respectively. He joined Guangzhou Maritime University in 2009, where he is currently serving as a professor with the Department of Computer Science attached to School of Computer Science and Information Engineering. His current research interests include the area of data science, pattern recognition, bioinformatics, ontologies, digital image processing.

He has participated in several research projects of the national level and provincial level as a principal member, and hosted some vertical projects of the provincial level and other two horizontal projects. He has published more than twenty academic papers in international journals such as Gene, the Journal of computational biology, Journal of Theoretical Biology, etc. in the field of bioinformatics, pattern recognition.

From December 2008 to May 2009, he was a research assistant in Pattern Recognition Laboratory Hong Kong Baptist University. He is a senior member of the China Computer Federation, and a member of the Image and Graphics Association of Guangdong. He is currently a reviewer of several international publications, such as IEEE Signal Processing Letters, Gene, Journal of Theoretical Biology, Computer Science and Information Systems and Journal of Computational Methods in Sciences and Engineering.
